‘Less is more’ with the Polestar Collection

It is often said that ‘less is more’. This sentiment has long been the bedrock of minimalist design and is especially prevalent in the design of many modern electric cars. The fast-emerging Polestar collection of electric cars is the epitome of simplicity and modern aesthetics, incorporating sustainable materials as a key focus of the design process. And yet behind this minimalistic and subtle Polestar design ethos is a plethora of innovative technology developed for functionality and performance. It’s a distinctive design language that Andersen, the luxury home EV charger brand, can relate to well.

Every detail of the Polestar range has been designed to be quietly, yet confidently distinctive. Sleek, clean exterior lines exude modern contemporary style, without being overtly flamboyant, which gives the Polestar range an air of elegance. The minimalistic design language flows through to the interior, where quality of finish and uncluttered simplicity blends effortlessly with innovative technology making all the models feel like an electric car for both today, and the future.

But, while being pioneering in its sector, the Polestar range also feels practical, functional and safe, echoing its family links to Volvo Cars. As a result, the Polestar range benefits from Volvo developed safety features including the latest protective and preventative systems, with advanced driver assistance technology.
The use of sustainable materials is impressive, which gives credence to the brand’s ethical values. Polestar do things a little differently. They start with sustainable materials before design, which means they don’t have to adapt or worry about how to recycle a product afterwards, placing future sustainability and animal welfare high on the agenda in the product design process.

Polestar’s colour palette even embraces their commitment to sustainability, with many colours inspired by nature, such as Thunder Grey, to evoke the colours of a stormy sky. And on the subject of Polestar colours, look out for the introduction of two new exterior colours in 2023, a metallic black called ‘Space’ and gold-grey with red flake, known as ‘Jupiter’.

Polestar started its electric journey with its hybrid model, the Polestar 1, before introducing its all-electric Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 SUV, the latter model being launched in the final quarter of 2022 with the first deliveries expected in the UK this autumn 2023. The Polestar 2, sitting in the luxury electric car segment with a starting price of £43,150, has a range of 341 miles on a single charge, while the larger Polestar 3 SUV, from £79,900, can deliver 379 miles on a single charge. And, of course, given the design similarities, Andersen is an ideal Polestar home charger for owners to install at their properties, with a wide range of customisable unit finishes to complement their cars, and their homes.

Aside from aesthetics and range, we’ve been looking at some of the standard features included in the two electric Polestar models. Polestar 2 owners can expect frameless mirrors, LED headlights with active beam, some rather eye-catching 19” 5-double spoke black diamond cut alloy wheels, heated front seats, Google in-built, high performance sound system, OTA updates, Digi key with pre-climate and a rather stylish metallic paint finish. Similarly, the Polestar 3 SUV’s standard features include frameless mirrors, LED headlights with active beam, Bowers & Wilkins audio system for Polestar, 21” 5-V spoke black diamond cut wheels, heated rear seats and heads up display.

The Polestar 5 prototype car debuted at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022, where it went up the hill and featured on the stand ahead of its scheduled 2024 launch. It is described as the next step in Polestar’s evolution using “design language that is futuristic, yet realistic” using sustainable materials that can already be produced, rather than “indulging in daydreams”. We think that’s a very relevant point. It is another reason why we offer sustainably sourced material options within our choice of panel finishes for our Andersen A2 home EV chargers. Sustainable options within our EV home charger range includes the beautiful Andersen Accoya timber finish, which not only looks the part, but is durable too with the benefit of being low maintenance.
